PLB Euro 2012 Rock Spotlight: The Ill Thraps

Euro 2012 is right around the corner, and we all know what that means. Yes, the Irish team will have an official song. It will be bombastic, and more than likely nothing more than a shadow of the 1990 World Cup classic "Put 'Em Under Pressure"

Wait, what's that you say? There already is one?

Okay, not the worst piece of garbage I've ever heard. Nice touch throwing the old "you'll never beat the Irish" lie in the refrain, taken from the terrace chant that rivals 10CC's "I'm Not In Love" and John Waite's "(I Ain't) Missing You" as far as telling massive musical whoppers goes.*

But as Oscar Wilde once said, "a little sincerity is a dangerous thing, and a great deal of it is absolutely fatal." Which brings us to the UNOFFICIAL song for Ireland's campaign, "We All Get Nil Together" by Dublin/Roscommon outfit The Ill Thraps. It's sure to be the most brutally honest football song you'll hear this summer, and I don't want to inflate these lads' egos any more than necessary, but it's really quite good too.

Watch it again. And again. Keep watching it until you know all the words, because whether you're cheering the team on from a pub or from the stadium (like PLB's own Hoosay**) this summer, it will be your job to lead the lines in singsong whenever a superhuman save courtesy of Shay Given or Richard Dunne's rear end is needed to keep hopes alive.

The Ill Thraps can also be heard on their Soundcloud page.

*Thanks to whoever I stole that one off of a while back.
** Lucky bastard.
